Common Plumbing Problems

Common plumbing problems

Having been established for over 25 years there are not many plumbing problems that we have not come across. However, some plumbing problems are far more common than others.

Here are 5 common plumbing problems with our top tips on how to fix.

  1. Toilet won’t stop running

A toilet which continually runs is a huge wastage of water and should be quickly rectified.

Common reasons for a running toilet can be a faulty overflow valve, flush valve, ball valve or siphon.  It is best not to fiddle with the internal components of the toilet as this could lead to further damage. It is best to involve a plumber at this stage to ensure you get the correct parts fixed.

  1. Leaking taps

Whether it is your kitchen, bathroom or basin tap that leaks, the annoying drip is not frustrating it’s also wasting water. Taps can leak for a number of reasons. For example this could be due to age or a build-up of limescale inside the tap, especially if your water is hard.

Some people will attempt to change the tap(s) themselves.  However sometimes it is only the cartridge within the tap that needs changing in which case it is always worth calling a professional plumber in. Furthermore your tap may even be under warranty! Our  professional plumbers carry a range of spare parts in their vans. This means where possible we can fix your plumbing problems during the first visit.

  1. Shower going hot and cold

There really isn’t anything worse than being confronted with a freezing cold then boiling hot shower! If this is something you can resonate we really advise getting a professional plumber.

  1. Burst pipe

This can be an emergency and where possible we will send out a plumber the same day.  Burst pipes can be caused by a number of issues, such as debris in your system causing a weakness in a joint.  If you can expose the leak the plumber can attend and replace the leaking pipe. Sometimes it is not possible to expose the leak especially if your pipe work is underneath concrete flooring in which case we can let you know the best solution.

  1. Low water pressure

Low water pressure can be very common.  There are different factors that can affect water pressure from debris in your system, a problem with your boiler, taps or hot water cylinder if you have one. In this situation it is always best to call a qualified heating engineer or plumber.
