Oil Boiler Service Engineers

Improve efficiency with a regular oil boiler service

To keep your boiler running safely, efficiently and reliably, an annual oil boiler service is essential. Carried out by an OFTEC-registered engineer, servicing helps ensure your boiler is operating at its best — giving you peace of mind and reducing the risk of unexpected breakdowns when you need heating the most.

A yearly oil boiler service can help to:

  • Identify wear and tear early, before it becomes a costly repair

  • Reduce the chance of winter breakdowns when demand is highest

  • Maintain your manufacturer warranty, where annual servicing is required

  • Improve boiler efficiency and lower running costs

  • Reduce fuel consumption, helping your heating oil last longer

Remember, many manufactures such as Worcester Bosch and Grant stipulate that an annual oil boiler service must be carried out to uphold their boiler warranties. Failure to keep up with a yearly service will invalidate your warranty meaning you will be liable to pay for boiler faults.

What happens during a oil boiler service? image

What happens during a oil boiler service?

During your oil boiler service our OFTEC engineer will check your boiler is safe and working as efficiently as possible, highlighting  any areas that may need attention and providing specific advice to suit your heating system.

The outer case is removed (IMPORTANT: only an OFTEC or Gas Safe engineer should remove your boiler case and touch internal components) and the internal components of your boiler are cleaned.

Often the oil nozzle will be replaced.  Oil nozzles dictate the amount of oil that passes through the burner.  Over time the nozzle can warp, which in turn reduces the boiler’s efficiency.

The heat exchanger will be cleaned removing any soot build-up.  If a oil boiler is not regularly serviced soot and debris can build up in the heat exchanger which can cause permanent damage.  This can then mean your heat exchanger will need to be replaced or even render your boiler beyond economical repair.

During your oil boiler service the engineer will check the oil tank visually and checked for any blocked filters or oil leaks.

Once your service is complete you will be handed a CD10 Oil Firing Installation Completion Report Certificate.  This provides you with further information.

Do I really need a boiler service?

Regular boiler servicing is very important

If you decide against regular servicing, there is a much higher risk of your boiler breaking down when you need it most.  Typically as the weather turns colder and need to turn on the heating.  Without regular servicing long term damage can occur, which can otherwise be prevented. Older boilers which aren’t serviced can lose large amounts of energy meaning you are spending more money to heat your home and deliver hot water.

    FAQs

We recommend servicing your oil boiler every 12 months. Annual servicing helps keep your boiler operating safely and efficiently, reduces the risk of unexpected breakdowns and can help extend the life of your heating system.

During an oil boiler service, our engineer will inspect, clean and test key components of your heating system. This typically includes checking the burner, heat exchanger, oil supply, flue, combustion performance, safety controls and overall operation to ensure everything is working correctly.

Regular servicing helps maintain your boiler’s efficiency, improves reliability and identifies worn or damaged components before they lead to costly repairs. It also helps ensure your boiler is operating safely and may be required to maintain your manufacturer’s warranty.

Most oil boiler services take around 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the type, age and condition of the boiler. If we identify any issues during the service, we’ll explain what we’ve found and discuss your options before carrying out any additional work.

Yes. A well-maintained oil boiler operates more efficiently than one that hasn’t been serviced regularly. Keeping components clean and correctly adjusted can help reduce fuel consumption and lower your heating costs.

Yes. Our engineers service most major oil boiler manufacturers, including Grant, Worcester Bosch, Firebird, Warmflow, Navien and many other leading brands.

Yes. We regularly service both modern and older oil boilers. If your boiler is becoming unreliable or replacement parts are difficult to obtain, we’ll provide honest advice on whether continued servicing and repairs remain the most economical option.

The easiest approach is to book your service every year around the same time, ideally before the colder months. An annual autumn service helps ensure your heating system is ready for winter when you’ll rely on it the most.

While no service can guarantee a boiler won’t develop a fault, regular servicing significantly reduces the likelihood of unexpected breakdowns by identifying wear and tear before it becomes a major problem.

We provide professional oil boiler servicing throughout Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and Hampshire, helping homeowners keep their heating systems running safely and efficiently all year round.
