If you have a system boiler or regular / traditional boiler you will require a cylinder to store your hot water created by your boiler.
There are two types of cylinder unvented and vented.
A vented cylinder has a cold water storage tank usually within the loft, which supplies water to the hot water cylinder via a gravity fed system. The associated issue with vented cylinders is the lower pressure water that is often delivered. This type of system takes up more space within your home through the need for a cold water storage tank.
However, if you have a property with low water pressure a vented cylinder maybe a good option for you. Vented cylinders also tend to be easier to install and require very little maintenance.
An unvented cylinder is a tank which stores hot water, delivering it to taps and showers on demand. Offering a much higher performance than vented cylinders. An unvented cylinder does not require a cold water storage tank as they take water directly from the mains supply. This means that you are able to have more space in your home as well as a higher pressure water. The other added benefit is the removal of pipes in your loft negates the issue of freezing pipes during the winter months.
