Full Heating System Upgrade with Daikin Altherma
This project involved a complete heating system transformation for a rural property near Shaftesbury, replacing an outdated oil-based system with a modern, energy-efficient air source heat pump.
The Brief
The homeowner wanted to future-proof their property, improve efficiency, and move away from oil heating. The existing system included an old boiler, radiators, roof tanks, and an oil tank—all of which needed removing and replacing with a more sustainable solution.
What We Did
We carried out a full system overhaul from start to finish:
- Safely drained and removed the existing oil boiler, radiators, flue, and all associated pipework
- Removed roof tanks, hot water cylinder, and redundant cold-water storage
- Drained and removed the oil tank, including safe disposal of remaining oil
- Built a solid base ready for the new heat pump installation
We then installed a complete new heating system:
- Installed a Daikin Altherma air source heat pump
- Supplied and fitted a Daikin unvented hot water cylinder
- Installed 13 new compact radiators throughout the property, all with thermostatic radiator valves for room-by-room control
- Ran new pipework from the loft space to each radiator
- Installed a smart thermostat for easy control
Additional system components included:
- Anti-freeze protection valves
- Magnetic filter for system protection
- Heating pump, valves, pressure vessel, and PRV
- Fully lagged pipework in roof space and cylinder cupboard for efficiency
The Result
The property now benefits from a fully modern, energy-efficient heating system designed for long-term performance and lower running costs.
