Air Source Heat Pump Installation Near Gillingham, Dorset
28/04/2026
High-Performance System for a Large Rural Property
This project near Gillingham involved the design and installation of a large-scale air source heat pump system for a substantial rural home, replacing an outdated boiler and hot water setup with a fully integrated, modern heating solution.
While this installation was completed prior to the recent grant increase, homeowners upgrading today can now benefit from the £9,000 government grant when switching from oil or LPG.
The Brief
The property required a robust, high-output heating system capable of:
- Heating a large home efficiently
- Supporting high hot water demand
- Integrating new radiators and underfloor heating
- Providing reliable, controllable heating across multiple zones
What We Did
This was a full plant room and system transformation, including:
- Removal of the existing boiler, flue, cylinder, and cold water storage tanks
- Full system powerflush and chemical clean to prepare existing pipework
We then installed a bespoke multi-unit heat pump system:
- 3x Daikin High Temperature Air Source Heat Pumps
- Buffer tank to optimise system performance
- Daikin unvented hot water cylinder for high demand hot water
To support the system, we installed:
- Multiple pumps, zone valves, magnetic filters, and strainers
- Pressurisation unit and expansion vessels
- Secondary hot water return system
- Full pipework insulation throughout
Heating Distribution Upgrades
To ensure the system worked efficiently across the whole property:
- Installed multiple new radiators throughout the home with TRVs
- Installed underfloor heating to a new extension
- Zoned the system using Smart Thermostats
- Set up full smart controls with internet access for remote management
Electrical & Plant Room Installation
A completely new plant room setup was created, including:
- New 3-phase electrical supply and consumer unit
- Dedicated circuits for heat pumps and all system components
- Full wiring of controls, sensors, pumps, and safety systems
- NICEIC certification and Part P compliance
The Result
The property now benefits from a fully integrated, high-capacity heating system designed for efficiency, control, and long-term reliability.
- Consistent heating across a large property
- Strong hot water performance for high demand households
- Zoned heating for improved comfort and efficiency
- Future-ready system with smart controls
£9,000 Government Grant – Now Available
At the time of this installation, the grant available was £7,500.
However, homeowners replacing oil or LPG systems can now receive £9,000 through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)—making systems like this far more accessible.
