£9,000 Heat Pump Grant Increase – What the 2026 Boiler Upgrade Scheme Means for You

From 21 July 2026 until 31 March 2027, eligible off-gas grid properties can receive a £9,000 Government grant towards the installation of an air source heat pump or ground source heat pump. This is an increase from the previous grant of £7,500 and is designed to encourage more homeowners to consider renewable heating.

What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a Government-funded initiative that helps homeowners in England and Wales reduce the cost of installing low-carbon heating systems.
The scheme provides an upfront grant towards the installation of eligible renewable heating technologies, with the installer applying for the grant on the homeowner’s behalf.
Between 21 July 2026 and 31 March 2027, eligible off-gas grid homes can receive:
- £9,000 towards an air source heat pump
- £9,000 towards a ground source heat pump
The grant is deducted from the installation cost, helping to reduce the amount homeowners pay.
Who could be eligible for the £9,000 heat pump grant?
Although eligibility depends on the Government’s criteria, the increased grant is aimed at homeowners whose properties:
- Are not connected to the mains gas network
- Currently use an oil-fired boiler or LPG boiler
- Are suitable for an air source or ground source heat pump
- Meet the requirements of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
