Powrmatic is one of the UK’s best-known manufacturers of commercial and industrial space heating, offering everything from warm air unit heaters to radiant tube heating systems designed specifically for large buildings.

If you run a workshop, warehouse, factory, garage, sports hall, school, or commercial unit, heating the space efficiently can be a real challenge — especially when ceilings are high and doors are constantly opening.
A Powrmatic heater is a commercial heating system built to heat large spaces quickly, safely and efficiently.
Unlike a home boiler system (radiators), Powrmatic units are usually designed to either:
✅ blow heated air into the building (warm air heating)
or
✅ heat people and surfaces directly (radiant heating)
Their product range covers multiple types of industrial heating systems, including warm air cabinet heaters and radiant tube heaters.
Warm air heaters work by heating air and distributing it into the space (either directly, or via ductwork).
These are often ceiling suspended or mounted at high level, making them ideal for open industrial spaces.
A popular example is the Powrmatic LX range of suspended warm air unit heaters, designed to deliver rapid and even heat distribution.
Best suited for:
workshops
warehouses
light industrial units
garages
sports buildings
Cabinet heaters are larger units with higher outputs, suitable for bigger buildings or where ductwork is required.
Powrmatic’s CX range is designed for flexibility (horizontal/vertical installation, ducted, plant room etc.) and includes modern modulating burner technology aimed at reducing NOx emissions.
Best suited for:
factories
logistics buildings
large warehouses
retail sheds
buildings requiring ducted warm air
Radiant heaters don’t heat all the air in the building — instead they warm people, products and surfaces (similar to the warmth you feel from the sun).
Powrmatic’s SRP radiant heaters are commonly available in U-tube and linear formats, with outputs typically around 10–60kW, and are ideal where there’s high air movement.
This is one of the best options if:
doors are frequently open
the building is draughty
you need “targeted heat” over work areas
Best suited for:
loading bays
workshops with open shutter doors
garages and MOT bays
manufacturing zones
Depending on the model, Powrmatic heaters can run on:
Natural Gas
LPG (Propane)
Oil (for sites without gas supply)
Some ranges are also available in electric / hot water / steam formats depending on application
For Dorset and surrounding areas, gas and LPG are common on industrial estates — while oil-fired warm air heaters can be ideal for rural commercial buildings.
Warm air systems heat large spaces quickly — ideal for buildings that aren’t in constant use, such as workshops and garages.
Radiators can struggle in large-volume spaces. Powrmatic systems are designed specifically for this type of environment.
Many systems can be installed:
suspended
wall-mounted
cabinet style
ducted
plant-room installed
Radiant systems are particularly good for comfort where warm air would simply disappear into the roof space.
This is classic heat stratification — warm air rises and sits at high level.
A Powrmatic warm air system can be improved massively by adding:
proper heater positioning
ducting or directional discharge
destratification fans (in some buildings)
Neither is “better” — it depends on the building.
Go warm air if:
you want whole-building heat
you have a decent envelope (less draughty)
the building is used consistently
Go radiant if:
doors are open often
the building is draughty
you only need to heat certain zones
Powrmatic heaters are robust commercial units — but like all combustion appliances they need:
the correct flue setup
correct ventilation
safe commissioning
regular servicing
Some models can be installed room sealed or flued-only depending on the design, and installation should always follow manufacturer requirements and relevant UK safety standards.
In commercial environments we usually recommend:
✅ at least once per year
(or more often in dusty/high-use environments)
A service typically includes:
burner checks and combustion testing
heat exchanger inspection
safety checks
fan and airflow checks
controls and thermostat verification
flue integrity inspection
If you’re planning a new commercial heating system (or upgrading an old one), the key is choosing the right heat type for the building.
At Total Energy Services, we help commercial customers across Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset and Hampshire with:
commercial heating installations
warm air and radiant systems
servicing & maintenance
troubleshooting and safety compliance
