How does a Daikin heat pump work?

A Daikin air source heat pump works by extracting thermal energy also known as ‘hidden heat’ from the air via its outdoor unit.

This air is then blown across an evaporator and absorbed by a sealed refrigerant circuit. The heat energy increases the temperature of the refrigerant inside the unit , before evaporating from a liquid to a gas.  During this evaporation process, more energy is released, captured and stored.  The resulting refrigerant gas passes through a compressor and is pressurised, increasing its temperature even more.  The pressurised gas then passes into a condenser where the refrigerant cools and condenses back into a liquid, releasing the heat energy.

This heat energy is then released into your home, either via your radiators for example or hot water systems.  The liquid refrigerant passes back through an expansion valve to begin the whole process again.
